In 2001, Lieutenant Governor of Delhi Vinai Kumar Saxena, who at the time was the president of cease NGO, the National Council for Civil Liberties, filed a disparagement case against her. Patkar called him a 'coward' in a press conference and said he was not a 'patriot' when his NGO published an advertisement against Patkar's Narmada Bachao Andolan.
